Kiah Cruz "My disability is apart of me but does not define me"

When I was in the 8th grade I was terrified of high school and what the next year might bring. I was worried that I will not fit into a public high school setting, the physical barriers and the stress that my body will have to endure walking from campus to campus trying to get to class on time. I was also worried about my physical appearance and the emotional stress of students starting at me at a larger scale. I have used a walker my whole life, I get really exhausted after walking even for five minutes, and if I am in a public place I often feel the stares of pity. My mom was able to find me a school that I was able to get around safely and timely. I've made great friends.

Spectrum Academy has helped me overcome the anxiety of being in High School, I don't feel judged, the school is small enough for me to get around and not be exhausted. I am always offered help when needed, my teachers have helped me become a better person and have guided me to become the best version of me! Spectrum Academy has made a lasting impact on my life, and as a senior in Spectrum, I will never forget your kindness and patience that the staff and teachers have with me.
